He anchors weather segments weeknights at 5PM, 6PM, and 11PM, as well as WBZ-TV News at 8PM on CBS News Boston and TV38. However, there may be an overall decrease in the global total number of tropical cyclones. Eric Fisher is Chief Meteorologist for CBS Bostons WBZ-TV. Rising sea levels also increase the risk of coastal flooding. There is strong evidence that increasing sea temperatures increase the intensity of tropical storms. Tropical storms and hurricanes: The picture here is complex.Extreme rainfall: A smaller but increasing number of studies on extreme rainfall detect a human signal.Drought: About half the studies on drought show significant human influence.Extreme heat: Almost all studies on extreme heat events indicate human influence.Scientists have published more than 150 attribution studies looking at weather events around the world: Puerto Rico is slogging through a prolonged and historic heat wave, which astonished meteorologists are attributing to a confluence of weather and ocean patterns, as well as human. Each year, the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society publishes a report evaluating extreme events worldwide of the previous year in the context of climate change. This rapidly developing area of science looks to understand whether human influence on the climate contributed to extreme events by making them more likely or more severe. Attribution science is adding to this evidence all the time. There is evidence of a human contribution to changes in temperature extremes, heavy rainfall events, and an increase in extreme high sea levels in a number of regions. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fifth Assessment Report (2014) showed that changes in many extreme weather and climate events have been observed since about 1950. This graph from Munich RE shows events causing loss are becoming more frequent. There has also been a decrease in cold extremes. In addition, there is evidence that the frequency of some types of extremes have changed – particularly warm temperature extremes and heavy rainfall events. The number of extreme events which cause loss in any given year is affected by both changing human factors, such as growing population and increasing infrastructure, as well as natural variability of the climate. Extreme weather events have severe impacts on society and ecosystems in our current climate, and pose an increasing threat as climate changes The FOX Forecast Center said sufficient ingredients will be in place over the southern High Plains on Saturday to spark numerous strong to severe storms.
